Public Dissent Under Attack!
Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, I read this article: Environmentalists = Terrorists: The New Math. There is a group called ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council) who is teaming up with the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance, a pro-hunting group, to create a model "Animal and Ecological Terrorism Act." The legislation is part of an intense backlash against increasingly effective and vocal citizen campaigns aimed at halting -- and holding corporations accountable for -- environmental, animal-rights and public health abuses.
Yes, this group wants to make all enviromental and animal rights activists classified as terrorists under the PATRIOT Act. If this litte piece of legislation passes, how long do you think it will be before all protestors of any kind are labelled terrorists? Our right to public dissent is under attack. This bill is being sent to individual states, not through our US Congress. And it isn't just Republicans backing it either. Democrats are jumping on the bandwagon too. This is clearly another way for big corporations to take control of our government. They already have control of the Federal Government, now they are aiming at our State Governments. I urge everyone to write to your State representatives and tell them that you oppose this kind of attack on our Constitutional Rights.
