Seems these morons skipped bio class. A 1st trimester fetus is not a sentient being-- it's a "potential" life...which means theyd better protest every jerking off and period, cause those are wasted potential too. Ms. Roe has probably been harassed to this point- unfortunately, assholes always scream the loudest. jl

You are of course 100% correct. The government has no business telling you that you can't have an abortion. But rather than think that the Radical Religious Right are the danger (they are a but a small minority) the danger is the 1000 ways the government is let into our lives because we think it's a good idea. Once civil liberties start being given away it's hard to stop the boulder from falling on you.

Holy moly. I had no idea!! What is WRONG with this woman?? I am getting nervous as I watch "the land of the free" become less and less so.

Nikita - 2003-06-18 10:58:13
We are witnessing the end of the Land of the Free. If they overturn Roe vs Wade, I wonder how all the conservative men in the country would feel if women suddenly decided to not have sex with them. Just until we get our right to choose secured. The Great American Dry Spell. They want to control what we can do with our bodies? Let's take that control back by not doing anything to their bodies with our bodies. Sure, it would suck for everyone, including women, but I think having our rights taken away might suck a little more.

Preach it, sister.

Holy GOD. Thank you for writing this entry, it's awesome. And I do agree, if you edit yourself to avoid pissing off readers, then there's just no point.

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but this is not good. I don't like abortion, wouldn't want to do it myself, but I do believe it is our choice. I like the idea of the Great AMerican Dry Spell though! That'd show 'em.

Right on, Ravyne. Well said. This is but one more grave danger of having Bush in the White House, appointing right-wing extremist judges to overturn Roe v. Wade and the right to privacy.

Caitlin - 2003-06-18 12:47:42
Jesus fucking christ. I'm glad you made this entry because the fact that she wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade pissed me off, and I enjoy being pissed. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT WOMEN TRYING TO DO!? This country was already screwed when Bush became president.. Stop fucking it up even more people. Pro life!

I agree with you completely, the goevernment has no right to place laws on an individuals body. Not everyone is religious, so we can't follow someones elses morals and make them our laws. Roe Vs. Wade happened a few decades ago, she just had to live with her regret now, how can someone be so selfish to want to change a whole system of laws just for her? People make me angry.

Oh, word word word word word times 7000 to everything you said in this entry. This whole issue just gets me completely up in arms, especially hearing this crap. I would love for some 12 year-old rape incest victim who got pregnant because of this to be told that she has to have her baby because that's God's way. Oh, fuck off. Gah, people.

What you call hypocrisy, another might call maturity, regret, or personal growth. There is nothing wrong with having a change of heart, and desiring to make something right that you feel you did wrong in the past. Yes, this decision affects women all across the country, but so did the initial decision to make abortion legal. She acted on her conscience then and she is doing so now. Do not claim that you are pro choice and in the same breath try to deny a woman an opportunity to make a choice that is different from yours.

thank you! it seems that someone still does have views that actually make sense...

Shit yeah! Thanks for running the WMD/Need to know banner -- rub it in baby! Gee, wonder why all those overnight patriots aren't running anymore rah-rah banners about Iraq -- oh gosh, my bad -- isn't that war over because Dubya told them so, and not because there are still two Army divisions and US soldiers and Iraquis getting killed every day!

It's amazing to me that she thinks she holds the responsibility of every child that was aborted. Every woman who is faced with the situation has some kind of choice to make, therefore it is THEIR decision. In saying what she does can't it be assumed she means that it would be better to go back to back ally abortions? And Mindquill, pro-choice means that you are giving each and every woman the right to make a choice, therefore you are saying "to each her own." I'm for that. I'm completely against anyone telling me that it's not my choice when it's my body. Any time you start putting "anti-" in front of something you are restricting ...

Angie - 2003-06-18 17:00:32
It's not just that she feels bad about it, it's that she filed an affidavit saying that she was coerced into doing it. That she had no idea what "abortion" really meant. You can read the affidavit at TheSmokingGun.com. Though, I hate to admit it, it's about time we did something more concrete than Rowe v. Wade. It's about time we got an ammendment to the Constitution that clearly states The Right To Privacy, and totally protects Reproductive Rights.

erica - 2003-06-18 17:13:43
(in response to the last sentence): and we will keep our noses out of yours! Well sorry...but you have total control over your body but once there's a baby...it's another person's life...that isn't you, which is somebody else's business. But i know people who have had abortions and i can't speak for them but they had emotional problems because of it...but they are nice people and I'm not saying people who get them are bad. Ok I'm sorry but abortion is morally wrong but that's just my opinion, but I have to admit you make interesting points and I understand your point of view, just can't agree with it...even though it would be easier to go along with what seems like the majority around here.

beautifully said. i have a friend who is catholic and very very pro-life - he never believes me when i say that i am very much pro-choice this does not mean that i am ecstatic every time a woman has an abortion. at any rate, what (your numbered reasons) pretty much express what i have been unable to thus far. do you mind if i quote you in a letter to him? i would very much appreciate it. thanks.

Christy - 2003-06-18 17:36:14
I'm in serious agreement with you. My problem is I've known rather too many irresponsible girls who've had abortions because they couldn't be trusted to take care of themselves properly *before* making the choice to have sex, some of them who weren't stupid either-- just lazy. Grr. As for prolifers, ironically enough they are the same people who are petrified that schools are going to pass out birth control or teach too much about sex, which would reduce the amount of abortions. How much more can one group be so blind?

Here's some dirt on Ms. McCorvey. Time to support NARAL and Benchmark more than ever.
-------------------------------
Ravyne - 2003-06-18 23:25:59
In response to Erica: there isn't a "baby" until it is BORN. Before that it is a fetus and some would even argue that it is a parasite. Please do not confuse the two. Both the mother and the fetus cannot have rights at the same time. The mother has rights until the fetus is born.
-------------------------------
Katrin - 2003-06-20 21:48:53
Just a minor nitpick...Norma "Jane Roe" McCorvey herself DIDN'T have an abortion. The verdict was decided too late in her pregnancy, and she ended up giving birth. For some reason, most of the stories about this issue omit that little fact.

Marisa - 2003-06-23 22:55:02
I have just realized that many pro-lifers out there are MEN. I would like all these pro-life men to go get pregnent and see if they want a choice or not.

Miranda - 2003-06-23 23:26:43
JESUS IS LORD and abortion is MURDER. And for the record, not ALL Christians are pro-life and pro-war, too. I'm not. And there is more to Jesus than mere "religion" - He is the risen Lord AND He is the only way to God, because He IS God :-)
