I guess the American people just got bored with peace and prosperity under the Clinton administration with surpluses projected for the foreseeable future. So now we have Bush, who has given huge tax cuts to the rich, created a huge deficit for the foreseeable future, waged a war to avenge his father's mistakes, lies to the American people on almost everything, turned our 911 sympathy into distrust for America, alienates our allies, buries in secrecy the papers of his father, Reagan, and the congressional investigation of 911, packs the courts with right-wing idealogs, tries to destroy social security and medicare, etc., etc., etc.

Preach on, sister. And climb back onto that soapbox!

Aaron - 2003-06-09 21:31:27
colin-g said..."Such rage...sad." Bush lied to the nation, to the world, in order to justify his aggression...I think rage is entirely appropriate. Compare this entirely reasonable anger to the blood-lust that Clinton inspired in the right wing. It's fine to have a blind bias, colin-g, but don't try to sell yourself as a moderate, level-headed thinker when you're just following the party's marching orders.

jessica lovejoy - 2003-06-09 22:07:05
Couldn't agree more...so now what do we DO about it? Any suggestions? (Oh, and it's easier to dismiss something as "rage" to than to address facts, dumbass. Anyway, she said she was on a *soapbox*. You no speaky?) Sorry R, sometimes I feel protective of you after I read about those assholes online making yr work a personal thing. :) -JL

Thank you all for your comments. and JL, I wish I knew what to do. there are too many sheeple still in this country who do not want to wake up

You know what's sad? Colin-g and Lauren not even having guts to provide their own web journal address. That's sad, because they are simply avoiding the argument or any sort of communication. (Sorta like many of them)

colin-g - 2003-06-09 23:24:41
Aaron said, "but don't try to sell yourself as a moderate, level-headed thinker when you're just following the party's marching orders." Let me just restate what I said, "Such rage...sad." Little eager to spout hate there aren't we Aaron? Guess I'm just not filled with enough rage but I prefer to use logic. Maybe if I went to work attacking my center of logic (for those of you with a liberal arts education...that's your brain you know) with a 22oz ball peen hammer I'd start to buy into liberal "marching orders." After repeated blows to the back of my skull, I'm sure I'd begin to felling those "tax and spend," "if it's right; it's wrong" tendencies come more and more to the front.

Leslie - 2003-06-10 02:08:09
I'd like you to point out where Aaron "spouted hate" in his response to your pretty limp and useless "Such rage ... sad" comment, colin-g. Why comment in a diary at all if you don't have something worthwhile to add? Especially on something as volatile as politics. Besides, the argument here wasn't liberals against conservatives -- AT ALL. It was that our president (political affiliation be damned) lied to us point blank and needs to answer for that. We need to stop seeing our leaders in Dem/Rep vision and start seeing them all as accountable leaders/citizens.
-------------------------------
Ravyne - 2003-06-10 04:31:00
Thank you Leslie! I couldn't have said it better myself. There is NO Dems/Reps division anymore. They are all working together to destroy our Constitution. The sooner people wake up to that fact, the better off we will be as a country. Replites and Demheavies have taken over this country. Stop thinking inside the box and take a look at things from outside the box for a while.

Equaltime - 2003-06-10 06:13:14
Oh for the love of all that is holy... Ravyne stop being so darned melodramatic. Bush didn't lie to us point blank. I will admit that I think this country is WAY off base as far as our laws go. The founders of our great Republic never envisioned a large federal behemoth Government that strips our wages to fund a federal welfare program for the states. So to that end I agree with you that we are getting away from our original inception. Combine with that the new definintions being used to interpret the Amendments to the Constitution and you have a recipie for problems. I love those who say, "I have the right to say whatever I want, anytime!" but then turn around and say that conservatives are spouting "hate speech" and should be silenced. Remember that the Bill of Rights extends to those to whom we disagree, even if their arguements are better than ours.

Equaltime - 2003-06-10 06:15:58
Remind me again why Bush doesn't belong in the White House? Is it that pesky Electoral College thing again? I hate it when thigs work as they are supposed to...
-------------------------------
Ravyne - 2003-06-10 12:14:57
First of all EqualTime...I have said nothing about oppositions having no say on my comments thing. Have I deleted anyone? NO. Secondly, there is a little thing called STATE RIGHTS TO MAKE AND KEEP LAWS. The State of Florida allowed for a recount under its STATE LAW. Bush over-rode state law and went to the US Supreme Court because the Florida Court didn't do enough for him. This has nothing to do with the Electorial College. This has to do with stepping on the toes of STATE RIGHTS. If you've read my diary long enough, EqualTime, you would know by now that I voted for Bush but changed my mind about him when he treaded on State Laws. If I could take back my vote now, I would.
-------------------------------
Ravyne - 2003-06-10 12:17:02
And, by the way, EqualTime...Yes, we were lied to about those WMD. But you just keep on believing the lies if it makes you sleep better at night.
-------------------------------
colin-g - 2003-06-10 13:56:27
You see Ravyne, that is how it is suppose to work. In a "federal" election, the "federal" government sets rules and guidelines that "state" governments have to follow. "States" can be stricter (except in cases that effect protected minorities) but not more lenient. The Florida Supreme Court's ruling went outside the time limit to complete set by the Constitution and the Congress. If the US Supreme Court didn't have jurisdiction, it wouldn't have been heard. No one blames the Florida Supreme Court for not knowing they violated "federal" law but that is, after all, why we a tiered court system. You see? No reason to get upset. Now you can just...let it go.
-------------------------------
Ravyne - 2003-06-10 14:08:59
It amazes me how fast conservatives will turn against their own principles when it suits them best. One of the founding principles of conservativism is to return laws to the STATES and have less FEDERAL government interference. However, when a state tries to enact its state laws, as in the Florida situation, state law is no longer applicable. No, colin-g, I will NOT let this go. I was a moderate conservative for 90% of my life and I know the values that *real* conservatives hold dearly. Those values are no longer being adhered to and instead the twisted values of the neoconservatives are taking over. My gripe isn't that Bush won over Gore. I did NOT and I repeat once again, I DID NOT VOTE FOR GORE I VOTED FOR BUSH. My gripe is that instead of allowing a state-issued process to take place, Bush went over the state and had the Supreme court make the decision to stop the recounts. If, as everyone continues to say, Bush won those recounts anyway, then there was no need for the Supreme court to step in. What I get from that whole situation is that Bush feared that Gore may have won the recount and that just wouldn't have looked very good with his brother being the Governor of Florida, so instead of allowing the state to proceed, he went to the Supreme Court. For me, this was just the beginning of a long line of deception by Bush and his administration and I will not get over it!

FOXPhotog - 2003-06-10 14:40:30
Ravyne, why not try yoga or a walk in the park... You really need to let the emotions go and let logic work. Colin-G is correct. Florida Supreme Court oversteped it's own jurisdiction. And speaking of subverting state's rights... what about the Democrat operatives who went down to Florida with the express reason of getting recounts in only those counties they believed to lean heavily toward Gore? No problem there with you I'll bet.
-------------------------------
Leslie - 2003-06-10 14:50:42
You know, this is just so typical of all political debate. Nitpick over one thing that happened years ago in an effort to turn heads the other way from what's going on right now. This is why nothing is ever fixed and nothing is ever resolved. Florida happened. It's done with. Ain't nothing going to change anything about it. Maybe Bush deserved the presidency, and maybe he didn't. That was then. One thing's certain, though. He needs to be put under full investigation for his actions in office in order to figure out whether or not he deserves to be president now. Focus, people.
-------------------------------
Ravyne - 2003-06-10 16:16:02
One more point and then this is whole subject will be dead in the water. As a matter of fact FOXphotog, when I heard about the close race in Florida, my first reaction was to do a STATE-WIDE recount. So please do not make any assumptions about what I thought then or now. You keep forgetting that I was not a Democrat then, or now, and that I must have been in Gore's camp. I was not then nor am I now in Gore's camp.
