This is not a good situation. On N. Korea's part, it's blackmail, plain and simple. If we give in to them now, where is it going to stop? When are we going to get some country that wants us to do something completely unacceptable, like hand over national security secrets or even the country itself, to prevent a nuclear war? How far are we willing to go? Are we willing to live under oppression and tyrany to prevent a nuclear conflict? Are our freedoms worth sacraficing so many lives for? Granted, this is hypothetical and definitely worst-case scenario, but still.... Nuclear war is in itself unacceaptable, of course, so what do we do? I see bad things happening. We're going to either end up with another war now, an even more costly one than Iraq, or we're going to give in and leave ourselves vulnerable to any other nation or group that manages to get their hands on nuclear weapons and uses them to blackmail us. We're screwed.
