Syria Still "Underfire", POWs Safe

Well, it would appear that the Bushites have made a pledge with Ariel Sharon that they will stop Syria's aid to Hizbollah if Sharon gets serious about peace with Palestine. I don't know about the rest of you, but this makes me very edgy. Hizbollah is based out of Lebanon, does this mean that Lebanon could also be on Bush's war target list? Although the Bush Administration says that any conflict with Syria is just another step in the "War on Terrorism", it still appears that the US is aiding and furthering the cause of Israel. This is sure to make many Arabs nervous; however, would it make them nervous enough to put their differences aside and join with one another to fight a holy war against the US and Israel?

Rumsfeld is still insisting that some Iraqi officials have fled to Syria. He also says that some Syrians are entering Iraq to fight with the Iraqi resistors. Of course, the Syrians are still claiming that all of this is a lie, that they are not harboring terrorists or Iraqi officials and that they are not sending troops or weapons over to Iraq. One has to stop and think, is Syria telling the truth, and if they are, is this just a ploy from the Chickenhawks in Washington to move on to another of their Axis of Evil countries? Or, does the US really have intelligence reports that prove that Syria is doing these things? The Bush Administration has been caught in so many lies it is hard to tell which side is being truthful here.

Some other interesting news coming out of the Bush Administration: they have given Israel 3 years to get out of occupied Arab land. They are planning an Indepenedent Palestinian state by 2005. I am sure this doesn't set too well with Ariel Sharon though. In fact, Sharon's advisors are due to meet with the Administration in Washington this week and have said:

Israel will suggest that the United States also take care of Iran and Syria because of their support for terror and pursuit of weapons of mass destruction. Israel will point out the support of Syria and Iran for Hezbollah, which the U.S. considers an important target in the war against international terrorism.

Bush, however, has said that he prefers to deal with Syria and Iran more diplomatically, providing they both cooperate. Could this be because, like N. Korea, they both have nuclear weapons or the ability to make them? I guess time will tell which of those two are next on the war plans.

It would appear that Saddam's special Republican Guard is protecting Saddam's home town of Tikrit. Guess this is why there wasn't much resistance in Baghdad. One still has to ask though: Where is Saddam? Will we capture him alive? Was he killed or wounded in the earlier attacks of Baghdad? Is Saddam going to become another boogey man like Bin Laden? Bin Laden who? Yeah, that's right, we have totally forgotten about him huh?

The good news coming out of the war today is that the seven POWs have been found alive and for the most part in good shape. Hurray! This is the best news I have heard in weeks. I am sure that although these seven are for the most part healthy, they will suffer some post-traumatic shock from being held prisoners not knowing if they would ever be recovered or killed. I wish for them all a safe trip home and a long healthy life.

The smug President is now on TV saying how happy he is that our seven POWs are safe. I guess that is a nice thing for him to do. I am sure it has eased the parents' - of these men and the one woman - tension. However, it still makes me ill every time I see that smug smirk of his on my TV screen. I love how Mike Malloy calls him "Too Stupid to be President"...I get a kick out of that every time he says it! If you've never listened to Mike Malloy's show, I urge you to click on the link above and listen to some of his archived shows.
